On a farm in Wick near Pershore England, I heard many years ago about some fields of flowers, being grown for their dried petals for use in confetti. Before they became well known and a major tourist attraction one had to wander the countryside looking for them because they moved location every year. The best week to go varies every year according to weather.

The petals are picked by hand by a special method and then dried and sorted. They are picked according to colour. It is just the petals that are harvested not the whole flower.

Here is a collection of my photos taken at Wick in three different years.

  1. The first thing I thought of was John Wick lol. This is a rather beautiful location. I did not even ponder about confetti yet anyway that maybe a rabbit hole I dive into one day .

    1. The confetti is beautiful. They blend the different colours to make mixes to order for your wedding theme colour. It has become popular because a lot of churches have banned the usual paper confetti which hangs around looking unsightly but will allow this flower petal type.

  2. Beautiful! I can't imagine harvesting these by hand. But, then again, I have picked cotton by hand - never again.

    1. The plus point for these, I noticed were that they were all standing up straight, because the flowers are tall, no bent backs, so that has to be good. They all had a special knack to remove petals only but the flowers had to be in the perfect stage for that to work.

    2. That makes sense - and they were all young and good looking. With cotton, it's bend all the time, the horrible scratching and stickiness and everyone looks like they've been ridden hard and put away wet.
